Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger follows a telepathic girl named Sophie Foster, who can read the minds of others. It had been her secret since she was five after receiving head trauma from a fall and waking up a Telepath.

But all that changes when a peculiar, but handsome, boy named Fitz emerges and claims to be like her - a Telepath. And when he tells her that there is an entirely different world hidden behind the light, Sophie finally feels like there is a place out there where she does belong.

Without time, Sophie is whisked off to a hidden world humans call “Shangri-La,” where she must learn to fit in, which is harder than she thought, and blend in with their traditions and rules. But some things in this picture-perfect paradise are not as utopian as she was told. Although this world has less crime, hidden murders and secret organizations are still shrouded in secrecy. If Sophie ever wants to find out the truth, she’ll have to break some rules and suffer the consequences later.
But, some secrets are too dangerous for Sophie to bear alone. And she soon finds out why.

I am a big fan of this book series because every time you think you know the ending, you get thrown for a loop. Shannon Messenger has created a world of beauty and misunderstanding, where there are always two sides to the story. I recommend Keeper of the Lost Cities to you if you are a fan of adventure, mystery, high-stakes plots, and just good-old fun.
